On the Gaddi trail - Over the Buran Pass

The high passes of the Himalayas have been used throughout centuries by the trans-migratory Gaddi shepherds herding their flocks over to greener pastures. One such crossing is the Buran Pass (15,500 ft) which separates the Pabbar and Sangla valley in Himachal Pradesh. Used mainly by the Gaddi shepherds of the area, and in the early days by the British in order to avoid the long arduous travel through the Satluj valley, this route provides a challenging trek from the Tons/Yamuna watershed in the Garhwal Himalayas into the Sangla valley in the Satluj watershed. Moving through the beautiful Pabbar valley, the main tributary of the Tons River, we cross the Buran pass into the equally scenic Baspa valley. This trip provides a gainful insight into a culturally rich melting pot of the meeting of the Buddhism, Hinduism and Muslim population of these areas.
This trip can be combined with a stay at our adventure camp on the Tons river and can be extended with a drive into the Spiti, Lahaul or Kinnaur valleys at the end of the trek.
